mm if you compare, lets say the beginning of Todeswalzer on here with Kong Hydnes Haug on Arntor, the synth itself sounds almost identical.

To me both are cheesy, the main difference with Arntor is that the instruments blur together in the mix and the details are shrouded - which makes the album more atmospheric.

I'm with Seven on this, production on 1184 is perfect, I don't prefer their earlier raw sound

It's not the synth, it's how you use it ;)

What an album... From the opener till the very end its a captivating journey, its like pure crystal energy being sucked in to blackhole, and then forming some beatiful, mellow melodies of bliss and joy inside of cold darkness. The only minor flaw here is transitions between tracks, sometimes it fades and starts too abruptly, not alowing the album to be a complete experience. Saying the riffs here are basic is a wrong statement. While not being overly technical, there is a taste of delicacy to melodies being layered, something that gives u an idea they are just subtle with their technical skilll.

This is probably one of the catchiest black metal albums ever. And idk, all Windir albums are solid enough that it doesn't matter. This has gotten the most plays, though.
