i was stuck on whether to give this a 3.5 or 4 but went with the first because i can only listen to a few songs from ABR before getting bored

I love how people rate this so high. Some people just have low expectations.

Honestly, if you even rated them on a scale of 1=the worst metalcore band ever and 5=the best metalcore band ever, these guys still probably wouldn't even get a 4, and thats saying a lot, seeing as how repetitive, uncreative, and unintelligent metalcore songs are. This Message Edited On 05.25.08This Message Edited On 05.26.08

you're right, I forgot to proofread that.

But yes, you can take it seriously. They're not even the best metalcore band I've heard, they're only an above average metalcore band, and metalcore is a boring, bland genre with absolutely nothing to offer.

no one said they were the greatest metalcore band ever. But they do somethings few bands do....they have their own sound, they have solid albums, and they put on one hell of a show. Not to mention their music is energetic and fun. they do things that other bands don't and/or can't

I just have to disagree with that. That's one thing Metalcore bands don't really have is their own sound. Energetic, yeah, I can see that.

As far as having a few solid albums, what I consider a "solid" album is probably a little different from what you consider a solid album. If I heard every metalcore album ever written I'd probably find 3 solid albums.

If they do put on a good show, then yeah, I'll have more respect for the band. This Message Edited On 05.27.08

If metalcore is such a bland and boring genre as you stated, why would you even bother checking this section out?

this section? Oh, you mean the "Metal" section of the reviews?

I feel more compelled to respond to a review I feel is too generous than a review that is right on or to harsh. In this case, giving these guys a 4.5 is just too generous. I'm not saying these guys can't play well and they don't have a basic idea of how to write a song, they just aren't special, and to me a 4.5 should only be given out if someone thinks that the band/album is amazing/special.

Obviously some people think these guys are special, I however, do not.

I've been awfully close to lowering this to a 4 just because of repetition but the album is still ridiculous to me. Just the sheer power of everything from vocals to lyrics to riffs keeps me interested and intrigued.

Whoever said they put on a hell of a show is absolutely correct. I've never heard a core band play such a spot on show in my life and I'd like to think I've seen plenty (Converge, Unearth, and As I Lay Dying to name a few). But as much as I enjoy ABR I can easily see why others don't. Who are some of your favorites in the genre?

Well, as far as having fun on stage and putting on a good show, Unearth is up there in the top 3 bands I've ever seen. (and way better than Converge live)

If you say these guys are better than Unearth live, (which is a bold statement) maybe I should delve deeper into this band.

interviewer02 you're pretty much correct they aren't special at all. You'll just waste time, like I did, trying to understand the high ratings it has received here. Josh D's review has a much more accurate rating.

It got high ratings because abr owns and so does this record... and yes i'm going to get crap for 5ing this, but this is definitive metalcore album in my opinion. this is what good, creative, diverse metalcore sounds like.

Intricately constructed brutally. Proof that when done well, metalcore can be an unstoppable force of nature.

This album is intense.

A lot of this album sounds the same and there are near enough no stand out tracks other than Black Sheep and Composure and yet it is still a fun listen. Pretty good metalcore.

They put on a pretty good show. One of the guitarists even got a measure ahead of everyone when I saw them.

Btw interviewer said their drummer is mediocre, which means I can't take him seriously. This Message Edited On 07.24.08
