"i mean the screams are the biggest appeal for this (because of their unmatched vulnerable brutality"
unmatched is debatable, i think neurosis do it better on some of their albums but u never see ppl sucking scott kelly's dick over it, and if u do its never to the same cartoonishly disproportionate extent

I don't even remember what a lot of these lyrics are & this album is in my top 10 albums ever. Yes, listening to the album can be a cathartic experience & the lyrical concept is widely relatable but that's not the main reason I listen to it.
The riffs & song-writing stand above anything else for me & the vox although great took me a long time to appreciate. The lyrics came afterwards because (understandably) I could hardly decipher a single word Bannon was saying.

"Yes, listening to the album can be a cathartic experience"
i agree with this, but strictly on a musical level in the same way that listening to cult of luna or botch or ulcerate can be cathartic

> but please stop being the "guys you're such pussies, this is just about the riffffffs m/ it's fucking mathcore not sufjan stevens or some shit with feelings" guy
i don't know, a little introspection and i guess i wouldn't be as bothered if most of it didn't come from people who would never touch this kind of music otherwise, and indeed have not heard any other albums like this BUT for some sad reason happen to outnumber us

I do think the special appeal of this is how all those technical qualities you mention are used for an emotional end, and ends up being very successful at that. I appreciate this as much as I do due to the emotional impact it has.

Definitely Lelle.
And park... yeah I find other music has cathartic qualities as well (CoL is a good choice), in a musical sense rather than thematically.

you can think whatever you want, no one is forcing you to get more feels from bannon's screams
"strictly on a musical level in the same way that listening to cult of luna or botch or ulcerate can be cathartic"
absolutely. what's your point?

"still really like it just not for the same reasons"
obviously (here i can see where you're coming from), but it's like you're blaming people for the reasons they like this and try backing it up with very exaggerated claims

Ok so I just jammed Petitioning and first impressions are pretty good. Definitely not as cohesive as this and it doesn't have any individual tracks that are as good as Homewrecker or Hell to Pay. But it's very consistent and the riffs are heavier than they are on this which is cool. I prefer Bannon's wailing on this though.

The saddest day is probably my favorite from that album too but Homewrecker is like the only song from this one that I loved instantly. Still my favorite. And Hell to Pay has really grown on me.
