Sounds good man, thanks. I'll plan on giving Petitioning a listen soon.

petitioning is not similar to this at all, though. however it's a masterpiece and i'd definitely recommend it regardless of not being a whole lot like this

I don't think any of their records are THAT similar to this but Petitioning is an option if you want the most influential of what's left, it's good to see the evolution of the band. I mean, maybe No Heroes is a more accessible version of this, but again not really & I didn't want to recommend a vastly inferior album (although I still dig). Not the easiest band to say for definite in terms of their discography really, in my opinion. I'd only rule out Halo (quality) & Axe (stylistically) completely as a 'here next' sort of thing.
What would you have said Artuma?

"I'd only rule out Halo (quality) & Axe (stylistically) completely as a 'here next' sort of thing."
that's where we agree for sure.
no heroes is very underrated, i mean obviously it's inferior to this but what wouldn't be? that would honestly be my first choice for someone who enjoyed this and wants some more. another one is awlwlb which is different than this but more accessible and gives a good overall picture of the band's post-this style

Trying not to get too hyped for the new album but those new tracks aren't helping.

'no heroes is very underrated'
I agree & stylistically it's a good fit, I've just seen that record receive a lot of derision (even from lovers of other Converge material) & didn't want to put the guy off.

what would be so off-putting about it if you dig this? plagues is divisive for sure but otherwise it should be enjoyable for any converge fan, even though it's not getting too much praise
|

it's enjoyable for sure--buncha really good stuff on there--just overall the album is not on par with the bands other records imo

I'd say You Fail Me is a good one after this. It's like the style of Jane Doe, but slowed down and with a large dose of bitterness and bile added. In the best way possible.
Otherwise I think Axe To Fall and All We Love We Leave Behind are good picks if nothing for the fact that they're way easier to get into. So if you could handle this they should be no problem, even if they are in a bit of a different style.

i see you fail me as an introvert, more depressed brother of this. it's not very accessible but sure there's a big chance he'll end up digging it a lot, possibly even more than this

New songs are dripping with YFM vibes too.

"This might be a question lots of people have asked but what album should I try after this one? This is still the only one I've heard from these guys. "
all of them except the debut honestly
this one is relatively overrated in the sense that it's not much better than the others (or rather, the others are just about as good for the most part) but for some reason this one tickles people's FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS AND OH MY GOD IT'S SO CATHARTIC WHEN HE SCREAMS LIKE THAT I TOTALLY HAD A BREAKUP TOO ONCE OMGGGGGG

i mean i would be a hypocrite to downplay the importance of emotional connection to music, but come the fuck on this band and the entire genre for that matter is so much more than just lyrics about breaking up with some lady...

"come the fuck on this band and the entire genre for that matter is so much more than just lyrics about breaking up with some lady"
you're saying this album is heralded as a classic particularly because of the lyrics? you should know that's not the case even though the lyrics get a lot of praise
p.s. i feel like we've had this debate before

yes im saying that a lot of what pushes people over the edge to giving it a 5 or whatever, as well as a lot of what normie reviewers and "music enthusiasts" who dont know shit about mathcore are always like "but like its totally so emotionally tho and dont mind the screams and the aggression its the way it is cuz of his feelings about this breakup and if u ever felt like that in ur life u should totally listen to this even if u dont like screams"
and like nahhhhhh tho
its mathcore son and yall sound like chodes
u want something to gush about, gush about the riffs, the songwriting, hell the production. there are a lot of things that deserve special praise here
i mean its no we are the romans but its really good musically
still prefer botch personally but

just to be 100% clear, im not discussing its reception in sputnik terms but rather in the wider context of internet music discussion, reviews, ya boi deathtony gripstano, /mu/tants et cetera, especially in recent times (aka retroactively, which lets face it is how most music is approached these days cuz how many ppl were actually having these kinds of conversations 15 years ago)

said literally no one ever, i mean the screams are the biggest appeal for this (because of their unmatched vulnerable brutality, along with the qualities you mentioned (yes the riffs, songwriting and especially the production are praised A LOT). sure you don't need to feel any emotional connection but please stop being the "guys you're such pussies, this is just about the riffffffs m/ it's fucking mathcore not sufjan stevens or some shit with feelings" guy

"said literally no one ever"
said the vast majority of people discussing this album outside the site, and quite a few people discussing it on the site (especially in lists of ppl who only ever listen to indie folk and alt stuff)
