The lyrics are rather abstract. Usually he starts with general theme and then puts a more dreamlike spin on it with symbolism that is more about making you feel things than being straight forward.

I can say that the first track, "Farmer in the City" is about the death of Pasolini. The Cockfighter makes reference to the trial of Queen Caroline and the trial of Adolf Eichmann and "Bolivia '95" is related to South American refugees and something to do with Che Guevara. But it's not very straight forward.
