Also grindcore bands usually don't have 2 concept albums about perverted love and obsession.
Yeah they just have regular non-concept albums conceptually about murder/perverted things

Definitely their last two records are really poppy but I wouldn't say that so much about Prowler or Terrifyer. What's general consensus on the heaviest grind band anyway? Insect Warfare maybe? Also, PD are more deathgrind than anything else, and I wouldn't call them very punk or metalcore.

I haven't quite been able to get into this album yet. Is there a context or a specific lens that other people have for when they listen to it?

It's a break-up album, the guy (Bannon) is REALLY angry. Apart from that I have nothing, it's awesome as a stress reliever or to channel your frustration to... until one day, through the chaos, comes clarity. That last sentence is probably nowhere near as poiniant as I'd like it to be.

| |
I dig it though. I guess it shouldn't matter if it was genre defining or anything but I figured I should hear what other people had to say since I've struggled a few times to get into it.

YFM is amazing but it's not better than this.

I'll probably give this another swing and, if it doesn't click, try "All We Love...". I feel like this band should be up my alley but they haven't made a big impression on me yet.

I think it's the concept and the large-scale structural coherence of this album that make it their best for me. This feels like a cohesive singular statement while their other albums feel more like collections of songs (with the exception of maybe Petitioning the Empty Sky).

Cosby this album might be a bit overwhelming getting into these guys for the first time. I'd recommend giving When Forever Comes Crashing or YFM a spin first.

@Ocean thanks man! I'll definitely give those a spin at some point. Are they just more accessible albums or what makes them easier to get into?

all we love is probably the best starting point for this band imo, if your taste is generally less extreme. axe to fall is more accessible but it's not a very good representation of the band's actual sound tbh

Cleaner production, more straightforward songwriting, less dense instrumentation generally. Overall just more conventional and accessible but still very inventive and interesting

All We Love is a good one to start with too but I just prefer YFM/WFCC personally.

Another vote for 'All We Love...' as a decent starting point, probably the most conventionally accessible of the Converge-like Converge albums.

and better than this to boot

you kidding me? you fail me?... pretty consistent atmosphere and mood throughout

You Fail Me got me into Converge. It was my starting point and I'm glad it was because Jane Doe or No Heroes probably wouldn't have done the trick at the time as that's about when I was getting more into abrasive/non-mainstream metal. It goes super hard with classic Converge mayhem and also slows down a bit to add to the already gloomy atmosphere set by the opener.
