'Wanna know what sucks? Proggy Opeth.'

Firstly, they've always been 'proggy', it would be more accurate to say prog rock era Opeth as they've abandoned the metal side of their sound completely.

Secondly, The Heritage is actually really good but a change in direction can often alienate core fans expecting a specific sound. As the first album in their rock trilogy that one was probably a bit of a shock to the system.

Wishful thinking perhaps, they used up all their unique ideas on The Heritage, not a fan of this & PC is straight up garbage.

Edit: they'll never return to metal but I'm hoping for something different to the last couple of albums at least.

And see the bright side, even if chicks don't like prog rock or death metal now you'll have a 40% more of chances to get a date and be a dandy

As a hardcore fan of yes and early genesis I will defend the band sound change to death. FIGHT ME

Well, Heritage is one of my most listened Opeth records and an absolute favourite of mine. This and PC just somehow lack the creativity Heritage had.

'Yeah, opeth will never return to their death metal sound get over it!'

Considering they were already a prog rock band when I discovered them I'm already over it.

'This and PC just somehow lack the creativity Heritage had.'

Definitely this.

I went from liking this album to not caring for it very quickly, and have since forgotten about it. I'd change my rating to reflect that, but I have a feeling that I'll come around to this album again.

Yeah, this has basically zero relistenability despite being a pretty good album overall

I can agree with that. The best moments aren't that impressive but it doesn't have many bad moments. High floor, low ceiling. I probably am going to keep the extra .5 on my rating for my loyalty to the 'peth boys.

"The Heritage is actually really good but a change in direction can often alienate core fans expecting a specific sound. "

To be fair, even if their newest albums came from a totally different band and weren't just Opeth diluting their sound, I still think it would be boring and uninteresting.
