I think one thing LP do really well, both instrumentally and with regards to songwriting, is taking lots of short, catchy sections and looping/layering/repeating them in novel arrangements over and over. Mikes spoken at length about chopping and screwing the guitar part for another demo to come up with Points of Authority, then forcing everyone to learn the song in the rehearsal room. It’s par for the course now with bedroom producers being the norm in metal, but this was a revolutionary compositional approach to heavy music in y2k.

What a great 90s pop song

Yeah what I really appreciate is the ear candy here, although it's super boring compared to what people do nowadays, all those extra electronic drum samples, synth/scratching do add a lot to give the songs something. Because without those 'tricks', the songs are super repetitive (they still are but the samples help).

I get your point, but I have to disagree
Every song on this album has something to add

Record honestly bored me with how repetitive it was, I feel like Meteora is miles above this.

It’s a great production overall, and at the time was mind blowing

True, and I can believe it was amazing for the time. I was way too young at the time for it to have that kind of an impact on me though

YUP. More layers, more variation with vocals, better songwriting, bigger hits.

They definitely perfected their formula on Meteora, but i love the raw and youthful energy on this record. There was so much inspiration and electricity shared in the group. “Crawling” is one of their best tracks

The crazy thing is that both this and Meteora are top-tier albums, even if this one is the "weaker" of the two. LP never quite sounded like this again on future records

HT and Meteora both have several tracks that are auto-skips for me but overall HT is wayyyy better. Other than like Hit The Floor, Meteora has no bite. It's just a radio rock album

Nah it bites

Yeah, Meteora definitely has bite still. It's more radio-friendly overall, even if HT has the most radio-friendly LP song pre-OML, but it makes up for that with really strong melody writing and some of the catchiest and most memorable songs in their discography

its the same formula with objectively better execution

Meteora is certainly superior to this. I like how Observer pops in every now and then to give it sum praise
