I actually think that Enigma Machine, Along for the Ride and Illumination Theory are the worst songs here... Although the rest isn't really a lot better

Enigma Machine and Illumination Here for me are categorized as two of the best in here. Along for the Ride is an atrocity.

So it is a concept album afterall. 20 tracks one the first CD? This will be choppy but lengthy

Wow I thought this would be 10/10 but this seems to become 20/10+... will probably have a lot of interludes. Still excited though

cant wait for Dream Theater Presents: The Astonishing - The Video Game and the tie-in movie and smartphone app

Listening to this album again, Enigma Machine sounds a lot better than I remembered it, I really like the first track too

Enigma Machine is probably the most worthwhile thing on here tbh

I saw on the wiki page for the next album that it will be mixed by richard chizki again (he did this album as well)... I really hope that's not true cause the production on this is pretty meh

It's being produced by Petrucci again, and Chycki is engineering it again, so expect it to sound astonishingly dull again.

I'm really unsure what to expect anymore. This concept seems utterly dull and unimaginative, and having so many tracks generally announces a lack of cohesion or flow, especially in a concept album..
I guess we could say they're trying something new...
Also, when you click on the character's image on their sort of website it's precised that we'll be talking about "The Great Northern Empire OF THE AMERICAS." So yeah, it's anticipation dystopian fiction with a possible theme of anti-colonialism. They've tried hard a few times, but DT never really succeeded at political commentary, but with some willpower, who knows?
As far as overblown and cliché concepts go, we're facing relatively unpromising stuff, but it could be worse
|
| |
yeah it could be operation mindcrime III

I actually don't know if it could be worse though

I looked at the wikipedia page for this album, and there are a total of 34 tracks spanning two discs.
Holy shit.

If at some point they wipe it all and tell us that was all a joke - which will, sadly, never happen - I'd laugh. It would be genuinely funny.
I had always thought DT were pretty poor lyricists and just alright when it came to naming songs, but "The Gift of Music", "A Life Left Behind", "The Walking Shadow", "Our New World", that's just unworthy of everything that's not third-rate power metal
|
| |
"The Walking Shadow"
Are you fucking serious? Well, I won't judge I book by it's cover...instead I'll judge it by their track record. This is likely to be meh or stink.

I just hope this album doesn't *sound* like power metal. I can handle cheesy titles and put up with poor lyrics if the music is good, but if this sounds like Dragon Force channeling the Hunger Games, I'm out.

I love my well done slice of Power/Symphonic Metal dickcheese but that thought is horrifying. In my eyes they're too much in a musical rut to even try a different type of sound compared to their previous outing.
