I'm dead laughing at my own post getting pasta status lol. I don't get what's so funny about it but the fact that it gets read as a Rick & Morty meme material is awesome lol

“Intricate melodies and complex songwriting” is what sells it for me

Well to be fair Ulcerate does fit that 'thinking man's metal' tag. I don't remember if it was a guy from Pelican or other Post-Metal band who said it but that tag suits a lot of metal acts because of their changing, slow-mid paced tempo combined with intricate melodies and complex songwritings. I definitely lean towads that kind of pensive state inducing metal

Wouldn’t describe ulcerate as a philosophical band, they are kinda misanthropic / apocalyptic but not dense really

"but not dense really"

I'm assuming this is only referring to their lyrics, which I never read, because part of why this band is like fucking impossible for me to just jam their entire discog is because it's like the densest death metal I've ever heard and it's unbelievably overwhelming/exhausting, and I've been listening to death metal since like 2001 or something like that

Tbh I think that title still goes to Obscura (the album, not the band) for me. I love guts but getting through that album can go from a breeze to feeling like I'm pushing a boulder up a hill depending on my mood

Agreed on Obscura, but this is like an entire fucking discographhy of Obscura to me lol

It's like impossible to listen to more than one album in one day for me
