I’d say give Higher a shot man, legit a top 5 track from these guys and it’s in the back half. That then Roman Sky is one of the best one-two punches in their entire discography. Higher feels like a proggier sci fi coded City of Evil cut and Roman Sky is legitimately beautiful. I really nearly cried when I saw them play it live.
Their acoustic performance at the Grammy Museum is damn good too, that rendition of Hail to the King is so much better than the original version, and those versions of Exist and Roman Sky are both just amazing.
But I guess I like this band a lot more than the average metalhead. Idk man, it still confuses me how people get so elitist (not you em) with A7X. They’re far and away the best mainstream metal band over the last 20-25 years. I’m honestly shocked hawks likes them at all. Our black metal king getting down with these guys too warms my cold dead heart

Oh the Grammy performance or the stage itself?
Because that Stones cover is really solid too imo! But I was never huge on them so idk how fans of that band would feel

Nah just listening to The Stage album. Wackerman is such a good fit it's crazy. Shadows is still my gripe but he's not nearly as bad as their other stuff (except for the newest, didn't like what I heard there).

I wouldn’t have thought he’d be a good fit, he’s good in Bad Religion obv but I never knew he had these kinds of chops… I legit can’t think of another drummer that id rather have with them at this point, dude is a fuckin monster behind the kit

Tbh I think Higher might be him at his very best, I cannot fucking believe he’s already been in the band a decade. Really hope we get at least one more album from these guys.

Vocal layering on their albums is trash. For the listening's sake I give it a pass though.
I can't help getting the impression that Buried Alive is the direct precursor to HttK in directly copying Metallica. At least only the outro is a ripoff and the rest of the song stomps King and This Means War into the ground.

That was the song that got me into the band. Still a banger as well.
Honestly, the bridge in Nightmare retraces Creeping Death pretty hard. But again, I’m willing to look past that long as I can view it as inspiration and not a full-blown ripoff.

I’d say it’s tied for third with The Stage… but the dreary and grief stricken atmosphere here might put it over the top even if I think The Stage is definitely the more “impressive” record.
But this has Save Me which… I mean come on lol, song is goated, well, either that or Cosmic. My fucking jaw was on the floor when they played this and then closed with Cosmic. Literally their two best tracks back to back, it just blew me the fuck away man. And goddamn Matt sounded phenomenal. He’s definitely not as good as he once was but with all the complications he’s had it’s seriously impressive he sounds as good as he does. I dunno what happened between The Stage and LIBAD but it’s a miracle he somehow got better from one to the other.
He gets way too much shit from people that really hate the band… I seriously think he’s my favorite mainstream metal vocalist ever, and really one of my favorites ever tbh.

Same as when people shit on rody from Protest the Hero.
come onnnn, people. These are some of the best vocalists to ever do it. (Patton is still on top, though)
