The beauty of this album is it's 50+ minutes of brutal metalcore & it's NOT same-y

If any of you love this album you might also like Terrifyer and Prowler in The Yard, both by Pig Destroyer.
No one ever makes the connection, but all 3 albums are super similar when you examine them.

those albums are much more grotesque in their imagery and aim to create some shock value, especially prowler while this relies on the suffocating emotionality

The tag of Grindcore scares the hell out of me (for some reason) but I was wondering how it compares to the chaos of Converge. IF I ever get round to checking anything of it's ilk then PITY would be my first attempt due to it's reputation.

...And that Napalm Death album - Scum

I feel like Pig Destroyer is a natural progression after Jane Doe, actually. Not in terms of quality, but for sure extremity. The most hard parts of Jane are very grind-like.

Good to know. Maybe I'll actually get around to checking it out at some point.

I've just noticed that if you check out the PITY main review, Jane Doe is one of the recommended albums.

pig destroyer is quite accessible by grindcore standards, definitely less chaotic than this tbh

Pig Destroyer is the radio pop of grindcore.

they really are, but terrifyer is a good enough album i can forgive the pop sensibilities

pop sensibilities lmao they aren't extreme by genre standards but it's still fucking grindcore we're talking about

i'm not really in for a lot of humor now that we're having freaking snowfall in may

That's rough. We've gotten snowfall here in May a couple times. No snow, but it's still in the 40's in the mornings.

The funniest thing is that music wise Pig Destroyer aren't even really grindcore. They have the short songs and the occasional blastbeat, but the sound is much more punk/metalcore than most grind.
Also grindcore bands usually don't have 2 concept albums about perverted love and obsession.
Definitely read along with the lyrics if you're going to listen to PITY (just now noticed that acronym after 10 years of listening to the album, the more you know) and Terrifyer. Hayes' lyrics are fantastic.

duuuude same shit here in russia, fucking snow

They're definitely grindcore. Very poppy grind, but grind nonetheless. Writing concept albums doesn't disqualify you from the genre.
