I'm annoyed at my stingy nature, don't want to shell out on Jane Live or YFM re-dux even though they'll probably both be great.

If it weren't for the vocals, this could be a really cool album.

It's not that they're bad, but for me the screaming just gets old after a while.

@MeatSalad, I know it's nothing that hasn't been said. I just don't quite understand all the love this album gets.

Because every viewpoint has to be groundbreaking.

The vocals are necessary & actually improve the album, how's Bannon supposed to portray all that anger by singing soft & beautiful vocal melodies? Don't get me wrong I struggled at first as well but the album just wouldn't be the same without the harsh nature of the vocal performance.
Also, in my experience if you can 'conquer' these vocals the vast majority will become plain sailing so it opens new doors (well, it did for me).

What Sunlight said

You make good points, Sunlight. I just listened to this for the first time recently (don't judge me too hard for that), and it just didn't click for me.
But I know a lot of people have said it took a while for them to fall in love with this, so maybe I should just give it time.

There's been so many albums that I've listened to that I've had at a three or below and now at are at a 4 or above because I gave them more time. This is one of them. I had this at a three initially as well. Try their later albums; the vocals aren't quite as harsh, but they still expose you to their style enough to get you acclimated enough to give this a more informed listen.

@Smash. Yeah, I was intrigued on first listen but I couldn't even finish the album (partly) due to the vocals, so I completely get where you're coming from. I peservered as the chaotic instrumentals had potential but it wasn't an easy "get" at all. No judgement from me.

Thanks, guys! It's encouraging to see that so many people didn't "get" this album at first, but now see it as a classic. It definitely gives me hope that this will grow on me.
It does have its moments. Homewrecker and the title track are pretty damn good.

Homewrecker is a banger. Also, don't beat yourself up if you still don't get it after awhile. It's okay if an album doesn't click after several listens. Give it some time and try their later stuff.

Homewrecker was the first Converge track I really liked & it still stands as one of my favourites. Good luck!
