I mean, there is a direct correlation (at least what I see here) with people who listen to more extreme forms of metal and their intellectual pursuits, as far as reading, continuing their education, and discovering various cultures.

"as far as reading,"
well, dependant on what you read.

"and discovering various cultures."
yeaaaaah.. I wouldn't be so sure about this.

It varies. A lot.

I've met some pretty swell people and some people working actively in the scene are smart guys like some guys doing festivals over here but your average metalhead in the scene with a bigger 'local' scene is also all dumb as hell.

Oh, I also met this chick once who was both dumb and couldn't take more than 3 beers without losing control. Shit was hilarious.

Right. I think there's more to life than chasing tail and consuming alcohol.

Also, there is an incredible focus of pretentiousness and elitism in certain groups.

Oh, and in being as edgy an (pseudo-)anti-social as possible.

If I played black metal, I'd wear a suit for live shows.

Lol.

This album kills me, if it weren't for Our Fortress is Burning... III, it would probably be a solid 5. It is pretty good when paired with Scars of the Shattered Sky though.
