[4] Best alternative music is where the best albums of the year are nominated each time it seems.

This just bimbles along. I think it’s the worst since the debut. Fuck it it’s a 2.5.

I know dude, I was handed Boxer when it came out and they ‘grew’ into one of my favourite bands of all time. Each and everyone of their albums ‘grows’ but there has to be a planted seed, even if it’s dug too deep you know it’s there, you can sense it.

This is a dandelion, it has flittered off on a breeze.

I really, really felt the same way as you until about a week ago. But. You might be right. Who knows.

Zak I’d recommend just listening to the first four and last four songs as the album for a bit - the middle songs just pull it down a little and bloat it out

Track 1-4 and 9-10 sound like perfect follow up stuff to TWFM and the last two songs work as a bit of experimentation/are good closing tunes.

Tbh I’m still not entirely convinced that this album is as good as I think it is or if I just love it because it’s The National. Either way it was my most listened to album from last year.

The only real issue I have with it is the lack of standout tracks. It’s insanely consistent in quality but there are only a couple tracks I’d consider top 20 level for them. It feels like their “deep cuts” album of that makes any sense.

I find it incomparable to what I consider the classics Doof mate.

Give me an Afraid of Everyone any day of the week.

I don't rate 'Afraid of Everyone' :D

I mean it's good but not a top eight on that album for me.
