like I've said in the past with several other artists, I don't care. My opinion has not changed. Whatever misconduct artists commit changes nothing about how I feel about their music.
it's possible Jesse engaged in shitty behavior. doesn't impact the quality of the music and it also does not undermine Vinnie, Garrett and Brian's hard work they put into it as well. separate the art from the artist, people. Even if Jesse did it, this should affect your enjoyment of the band absolutely zero. Affect your opinion of Jesse the person, fine, obviously. But not the music.

while I do agree with separating art from the artists, if the allegations turn out to be true my listening experience from that point on will be different because it's the band of a sexual abuser.
and besides that, I wouldn't want to spend any money on that band in terms of concert tix/buying records.

my thing is
the "separate art from artist" argument feels dangerously close to "you can be a scumbag as long as you're talented" and that kinda enables more dangerous stuff
i want to be all "innocent until proven guilty" but honestly there are far more cases of "outlandish stories of sexual harassment were true" than false (weinstein, spacey, louis CK to name a few very recent examples...)
and honestly Sowing I feel like you would have had an entirely different response if it wasn't Brand New's frontman but some band you didn't care about...

I mean I'm not going to not love this band or have any different opinion on the quality of the music but ugh something just won't sit right with me when they are being played.
but still, it's just an accusation for now that was conveniently brought up during the band's last hoorah seeing as they probably will be done in 2018.

I'm hoping he's innocent but I'm not gonna be biased on his side just cause he's the frontman and songwriter for a band I love. It's crazy how so many of these accusations end up being true, and famous people need to be held accountable for the shitty things they do.
That being said, there are people out there who make false accusations and try to destroy an innocent person's reputation or even their livelihood, which is also terrible, and it's usually just not clear what the truth is and the public just need to accept that and deal with it however they need to.
The whole Swans thing comes to my mind. I still enjoy Swans and I'm still going to listen to Brand New, but once in a while the possibility that the frontman did scummy things like this will enter my mind and make me think a bit.
But for the most part, I can do the whole separate the art from the artist thing and appreciate the music for what it is, art made by a group of people that resonates with me on a deep level. That special part won't change, but unfortunately many creative people are of course just as potentially capable of doing shitty things as everyone else.
