Absolomb is a top 5 Periphery song and I wish they'd focus on that direction more tbh

Absolomb has the best build-up they've ever done in a single song, and its atmosphere just seems so calculated during their composure of it. Timeless song.

100%.
The following is a tracklist of a "guaranteed 5 stars from Venin" Periphery greatest songs release. Something with a similar feel to all of these and you've got me.
Muramasa
Letter Experiment
Scarlet
All New Materials
Heavy Heart
Absolomb
The Parade of Ashes
Sentient Glow
Mile Zero
Pale Aura
Satellites

Absolomb is absolutely the standout from this album for me, it's the only track I regularly revisit. I remember out of boredom one day I spent a hot minute rewinding over and over just trying to memorize that opening rhythm, it rules

Really surprised to not hear the intros of Alpha or Omega, solid build-up songs. The ones in this list are just obvious classics.

Fair enough Tayne, those are wonderful!

Love seeing The Parade of Ashes on your list, venin. That NIN vibe is excellent with Spencer's voice

Parade of Ashes is one of my absolute favorites. Unsurprising as I also love Endur and basically all the other Spencer projects I listened to.

Revisiting this and might be worthy of a 3.5 after all.
Even if the chorus for Marigold and The Way the News Goes are awful. Particularly News.
Everything else goes from good to great, even the gay notez on Catch Fire.

the most super saiyan Spencer has ever sounded this album right here

worst p riff! this is when i jumped ship, now i remember why. not horrible at all, pretty good in spots. just so long, clean and more accessible than they were before this. some really irritating hooks and the heavy songs on here aren't good at all. the first two songs especially. i know marigold is a fan favorite but never did it for me, the backing vocals at the end are laughable.
but i do really like the second half. remain indoors is solid and habitual line stepper is mostly good. the ballad-y songs are the best here. absolomb is my favorite, one of my favs from them but also really love catch fire. basically a pop song, that direction really works for them. super catchy and fun. lune is a nice closer as well.
i saw this was going to be an ep then they just expanded it, that makes sense. really curious about the next two, will be fully blind for me.

wooo my brother haha. nice to hear that! how do you think i'll like the next two?

Album Rating: 3.0
not really sure what your ratings is for this one but I rated the next two considerably higher. some people like this over their newer stuff but P4 definitely has some standout moments by this band. P5 felt like P4 but more experimental and diverse, to me anyway.

think i'm gonna give this a 3. just meant how do they compare to this. p5 sounds cool, i like when they go more experimental. excited to jam!

I honestly don't know what they were thinking with this album other than let's just throw a bunch of shit at the wall and see how it sounds in post-production, there's some good songs but ultimately this album just didn't sound like Periphery to me. P4 still kind of gives me that feeling but it's better than P3 and P5 just sounds more fleshed out and atmospheric to me, as if they made the songwriting and how the songs flowed the most important thing when writing it.
