I don't know man, I just don't see how if an album is "not special" compared to other metal albums that it should get the second to lowest rating possible unless the average metal album is only so-so to him.

Honestly you have to not listen to much metal at all to not be able to see what's special about this. Not that there's anything wrong with not liking it, but to not see what's great about it is willful ignorance.

that bit was still in reference to that thread from the other day lol. It's different enough from RTL that it requires a more specific genre tag according to some. I typically rate anything I listen to more than once and go from there, but rarely bother with albums i don't expect to like. When I was younger i almost exclusively listened to thrash so i figured, and hoped I might genuinely like this based on the high praise

And didn't because the vocals are too loud?
They're actually somewhat lower in the mix than a lot of other albums I've heard recently...
A 1.5 is so freakin low dude I just don't understand...

I wouldn't actually 1.5 it tbh it's somewhere between 2 and 2.5 for me atm. I really don't like the vocals but they could grow on me (which happened with a lot of metal i didn't like at first). The lyrics are typical 80's metal silly stuff, but i know a lot of metal fans don't care about that. For something that i keep seeing labelled as prog it doesnt have a whole lot of variation in style to me though lot's of tempo changes. I dunno, just not my cup of tea. I get why metalheads like it but can't understand why they LOVE it.

I'm listening to Death - Individual Thought Patterns as I type this and thinking how much it rules, so it's not like i hate metal

i love the way metalheads get all antsy and fired up when you don't like their trophy album...

I'm no genre expert but progressive music can mean so many other things besides changing "style". Were you expecting doom bridges that lead into ambient streches?
And I'm actually super calm right now, you should see me when im being crazy.
I mean you're posting in a thread full of metalheads, did you expect a warm welcome? Lol

Bringing up Death to justify yourself it's just sad at this point, really.

not even sure why this became a trophy album in the first place sach

labelling music "progressive" is honestly just a way for people to make themsleves feel good because it makes their taste seem sophisticated.

^^^Like I 5'd We Lost the Sea's Departure Songs, was my AOTY last year, but that doesn't mean I mean I dive into the post-rock section here and start down-rating albums because I actually find like 95% of post rock super boring.
And then start posting in the threads like "hey look at my 2 gize, feel the edginess!"
I don't even post in the threads of METAL albums I don't like most of the time, cause why?
