Listening to Dream House / Irresistible doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Dream House makes me feel absolute rage and despair while Irresistible finds me pondering these previous feelings while calming down. The only part of this album that makes me feel happy is the almost victorious guitar riff at the end of The Pecan Tree, and even then it is only a slight happiness due to the heavy subject matter of the lyrics.

dream house sounds more determined and optimistic than anything imo, regardless of lyrical content. the end of pecan tree is so good live.

I definitely see where you are coming from. For me this album evokes an extreme emotional response (hence the 5) of despair and sadness. I can see how you can see optimism in it thought. And I'd have to agree with you on The Pecan Tree live. I screamed those lyrics so loud. If I hadn't seen Godspeed in September, then that would have been the best show I'd seen this year.
