it's just funny how you all think that just because gyro doesn't feel the same way as the majority then he is wrong or "fucking up" or "trolling"
come up with an actual argument plz

He once said that Death's music is homogeneous and that they can't keep time.
This is not homogeneous and if you expect perfection in the musicianship to the point where you nitpick theoretical nuances then you are listening to the wrong fucking genre. If this was perfect in every aspect then that 5 you see up there would not be so.

Based on what? The hype that this receives within the genre? I'm not clear on his reasons for not liking this but there is no objective opinion that must be had on this album.
For me, I don't like death metal (yes, the genre) because I can't connect with it on any level. I don't give a shit about technical ability or growls or riffs etc. because they are hollow devices, particularly on this album. I just find it soulless, and I know that isn't descriptive but that is what comes across to me when I listen.

'oh and butchered children said that this band wasn't actually death metal so dont worry gyro, you are in good company'
I thought i was stupid LOL

Saying that a riff is a hollow device is a really bold claim.

Exactly. That's a lot of the reason why a lot of people, including me, like the genre. If you don't appreciate what death metal tries to do then of course you're not going to like it. For me death metal is mostly about the aggressive nature in the riffs, drumming, and overall songwriting. That's why Chuck, and Death in general, were so highly regarded in the genre, because he was great at what he did.

I meant on this album in particular. The riffs just don't move me in any way and don't bring about any strong feeling. Didn't mean to generalize with that statement.

I like it becasue it has awesome aggressive moments, and great uplifting melodic ones and brings me closer to the feeling of the time period it came out during. It makes me want to put on a levi jacket and drive around at night shouting obscenities and random people.
Edit: With 5 friends crammed in a firebird.

Yes, I agree with what you said Hawks. It's the reason that I stay away from most death metal threads - I'm not looking for the same features in the music as fans of the genre do. I actually just posted here because I thought the attack on Gyro was ridiculous.

I'd definitely argue with you on that one, there are some incredibly emotional riffs here. The last few minutes of the album are about as emotional as riffing comes, the melodies have character, as do the intense riffs. Just because a riff is heavy does not mean it is devoid of meaning.

He kinda brought that on himself though. If you don't like the album that's fine, just don't come in here and say things like "If anyone wants to hear a death metal band that's actually good, check out Atheist." That just has nothing to do with this thread. And I've never had any problems with Gyro, I just think he was wrong in that instance.

I think that for me I just can't see death metal as a genre that communicates emotion realistically at all. That stops me from accessing the content here. I'm not going to dispute what you said.
