Over Soon is absolutely immaculate. What a song.

Only songs I can think of off the top of my head that I prefer are Stacks, Flume and Perth

Perth and Skinny Love are still my favorites by him but I'm very comfortable saying Over Soon is top 5 Bon Iver already
this is going to be his best album

I've surprisingly been more into the just total meticulous craft of Post-Emma stuff over the raw emotion of that one, and songwriting-wise, the new album has taken it into the stratosphere

He'll never top Flume or Stacks for me but then again I might be wrong

I thought he would never top Skinny Love (very intensely personal connection to that song for many reasons but also damn its one of the best songs ever) and then Perth topped it out of the gate on here so
Edit: have you given the whole stream a listen Rowan? What are your thoughts?

The "2 do 2" part of Over Soon sounds like what paradise will be.

let's be real, Bon Iver sure could give James Blake a lesson or 2 about the beauty of brevity considering how repetitive and overlong Colour is

I'll say plenty of negative things about a lot of the songs on here, but I definitely don't think any of them are too long

i'm in a weird position with this album because i can very easily see the faults people have with this album (it can be so corny and the more 'upbeat' songs just sound kinda wrong) but i'm just in love with how textural and put together it all is and the highs are breathtaking

Freddie I got halfway through and then had to go out for food but I'll resume from where I was

The main issue I have with this album is that it's pretty but unengaging, new one sounds super lean and mean

oh man you're in for a treat Rowan, the 2nd half of the new album is the absolute best work of his career so far imo

If this was an EP containing Perth, Holocene, Towers, Michicant, Calgary and maybe even Can't Make You Love Me, I would 5 it. I understand why people like Wash but it just stays a nice mezzo forte the whole song. The new tracks like Over Soon seem like they do that on the surface but the electric guitar, the saxophone and the vocal chops help build it to a crescendo. Beth/Rest has a jaw-dropping piano-only version that I love but the album version just feels forced and false and the production is compressed as hell. The two interludes are just that, and Minnesota WI is just really not my thing
