This has a strong connection to the second half of WtF. It's also almost a 4.5 for me. Fourteen years to fully appreciate the album?

Lost It All and 4:00 AM should’ve made it onto the tracklist. Albums already long but those two are better than a number of tracks that made the cut

The opening guitar melody in Buried Alive is so nostalgic. I played the track a stupid amount when I was 13/14.

I usually play that intro to warm up when I’m in standard or drop D, I’ve literally heard it at least a thousand times at this point lol. amazing song.
I know it’s cool to shit on these guys but they’re far and away my favorite modern mainstream metal band. Which I guess isn’t really a high bar to clear, it just kinda bums me out to see them get compared to really shit bands. I think in another life with a different vocalist these guys would have near universal respect.

Could pass as a "best of" comp. Save Me, Fiction, Victim, so many great tracks.

I truly do not understand the hate for this band, outside that I can see why M. Shadows vocals might not be everyone thing.

I love Waking the Fallen and City of Evil but everything after is stinky imo

I still think that City of Evil would be a fucking classic if Matt sounded like he does here. As it is I like that record a lot but man, his voice is fucking grating by the time you get to like The Wicked End. I haven’t listened to that album in full in years.
This is also the album where they learned how to actually write a good ballad (not counting I Won’t See You Tonight ofc), Warmness on the Soul is fucking horrid and Matt’s vocals completely ruin Seize the Day, then you got Dear God which is legit one of their worst songs ever.
Victim, Fiction, and So Far Away are all amazing, and Tonight the World Dies really might be Matt’s best vocal performance. The Stage has some killer ballads too. Roman Sky is another incredible song and that four-ish minute section in Exist after the shreddy instrumental section is amazing too. Angels is also damn good if you wanna call that a ballad. LIBAD doesn’t really have any ballads aside from maybe Cosmic but that one’s an all timer too.

Em, you really don’t like The Stage? To me it’s better than City of Evil in pretty much every way. Some people might say Matt’s voice is shot by that point but I think that more gruff delivery works perfectly for their last two records, tbh he sounds better on LIBAD which is a fucking miracle considering it’s seven years after The Stage.
He’s gotten much better live too, he was starting to sound rough there for a minute but post covid he’s been great imo

Oh and don’t forget Not Ready to Die, to me that’s like the perfect mix between this and Waking the Fallen. That one’s fucking incredible too.

This is their second best after City Of Evil I think. It's at least tied with WTF for second. Victim is their best ballad, easily.
