Overrated beyond belief. Just because it's dark and heavy doesn't make it King Crimson's best work.

Let's go track by track...

Red kicks off the album and you think... "Wow this is heavy and it's going to be good!" You then find out it's the same uninteresting riff for 6 minutes. A monotonous track that drags on way too long.

Fallen Angel is not a good song, period. King Crimson has done way better ballads. This is an inconsistent track with Wetton's vocals detracting from the song big time. The sax playing is decent.

One More Red Nightmare gets a pass and only because Bill Bruford kills it on the drum kit. Wetton's vocals are just atrocious. He cannot even hit the high notes and his voice sounds strained.

Yawner Providence aka Moonchild 2.0. Where Moonchild starts decent and then becomes an annoying 10 minute prog jam, Providence starts weak and ends better. The first 6 minutes are just stupid violin and bass. Not until the 6 minute mark do we get some solid drumming by Bruford and good bass riffing. Forgettable.

Starless, the closer to the album is far from perfect. Wetton's vocals again bring everything down. The main problem is the middle section which plods on for way to long. It's not until the last 4 minutes when things pickup with a prog wankfest. At least that part is more interesting than the first 8 minutes. For the most part though, this is a 12 minute nothing-fest track.

Mind numbingly boring album.
