Could never get the vocals, but everything else is God tier.

labrie is the least relevant in dream theater
|
| |
I would have liked Dream Theater less if they were an instrumental band tbh. I guess I might have liked them more if they had a different singer but then again I don't really have a problem with Labrie (at least not in the 90's), he was a great singer.

Is anyone else bothered by the uninspired drumming on this album?

if it was uninspired then yeah I'd be bothered

He was a great singer [2]
Any charisma, charm and even variation in his vocals are gone

They are though, and the bass drum fills especially. The constant triplets and fills every few measures or
so was beyond gross the last time I listened to this album in full.
It's akin to someone who just purchased a double bass pedal for the first time, and wants to do nothing but
show it off.

Yeah, Portnoy isn't always as great as most people say. He's got some awesome parts and fills but some pretty bland and uninspired moments too. I don't really find any of these bland parts here though

I feel you.
I guess it is a progressive metal classic, but I prefer everything prior to Scenes so much more (WDADU is an exception to that).

I didn't say he was bad, but some of the drum parts on here are borderline awful.
|
| |
he's better on awake and i&w but this is still badass
also is that new contortionist really worth listening to?
