The opening trilogy on this album is insanely good. Atonement is great too, of course, but those opening three are somethin else.

Yeah, feel the same. Those first three are all peak Opeth I'd say. Top 20 or so? All of them.

I'd agree with that yeah (disclaimer: I've done absolutely no calculations to verify such a bold claim).

Me neither. I'll think about my top 20 though, sounds like a fun excercise. Also sounds like it'll be 100 tracks all fighting over which one is best, and all making a compelling case...

Harlequin Forest is easily on the level of the first two.

Bottom 2 track here (of course, that doesn't make it bad by any means).

Harlequin Forest is among my top 10 Opeth tracks for sure. Flawless track, almost flawless record.

Slot Harlequin Forest in after TGC and then move that one above Hours of Wealth. That looks about right to me.

Grand Conjuration doesn't have those dynamicssssss, still a powerhouse of a song but Harlequin Forest does so much in its runtime.

Every song rules though so it's irrelevant haha.

Yea, Mike is at the top of his game here, and this also features Lopez' best performance by far.

This has some of my favorite drumming ever. It always serves the flow, and while being pretty busy, everything's on its place.

The instrumentation on this in general is complete brilliance. Insanely well organized. The inclusion of the keys was also done incredibly well. This is one of the few cases of a band taking their sound a huge step forward after over half a dozen of albums.

Lopez's drumming during the melodic break in Baying is the most fun thing to play ever.
