I don't know about you guys, but I feel like pirating her whole discography just because she's sooo annoying about the whole streaming issue.

metallica did the same thing and look how great they were afterwards
years of group therapy, a tarnished reputation, and they could never write a decent song again

But she gets away with It.

12 year olds aren't very smart

i would say it's probably both
i honestly doubt she's smart enough to know better

Given how adamant she is about the whole thing, I think she's pretty serious about it

Yeah, didn't come off as disingenuous to me at all.

god i don't understand why you would ever want to limit your music in any way. if i ever somehow managed to put together a decent album worth of mainstream success i'd want it to be heard everywhere and anywhere. who cares about the dollar when you can rest knowing the entire world can listen to something you had a hand in creating

Isn't it more about setting a precedent so that the little guys (You know artists not like T-Swizzle) can actually get a fair profit.
Of course for big artists it's not nearly as big of a deal, but for a large amount of artists we adore on sputnik who are living day to day touring, why not try to get them a better deal?

@idontcare
Death Magnetic was a solid album imo.

I would understand it, if she were feeding off scraps right now. But Taylor is a Multi-millionair, she's on the top 100 powerful women in the World List, she's selling out stadiums. And she is only 24 years old. I'd say the whole music thing is going pretty well for her. Just show some gratitude to all the fans who made you a super rich mega star

Except this isn't aimed at her fans? It's aimed at the labels nickel and diming their artists.
Don't most labels get like 90% of streaming revenue, where as artists typically get 20 or 30% on album sales, and streaming services don't exactly encourage album sales.
I love me some spotify, but I know I'm not exactly doing well by artists using it.

@sonofsnow
well yes i completely stand by smaller artists getting every dollar they can, but that's usually because they don't have the luxury of having the choice to let whole world know their music. to reiterate, i was saying that if i could let the whole world know my music, and that if i wanted to it would actually happen, i would. but smaller bands do need that dollar
also yeah dm was a good album but i'm one of those jackasses who think metallica died around 1992

It's not aimed at labels. Like jay-z with his whole tidal bs, she's mostly complaining about the slackers who listen to music for Free on spotify and stuff. Obviously thats Not whats she's saying overtly, but it boils Down to: customers need to pay me more.

@snide
i would say no. instead work on perfecting your playing abilities and see about getting some sort of professional production and try to release something on a label. oftentimes labels will also give you a hand in finding shows to perform at, getting your music out there, and they'll even put it on spotify and that stuff for you. it's also a good thing to work towards as it'll only lead to you putting out better music and it's great experience. the only major downfall is that you'd have to work for $$$

"This is not about me. Thankfully I am on my fifth album and can support myself, my band, crew, and entire management team by playing live shows. This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success. This is about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and thought that the royalties from that would get them out of debt. This is about the producer who works tirelessly to innovate and create, just like the innovators and creators at Apple are pioneering in their field…but will not get paid for a quarter of a year’s worth of plays on his or her son"

is there even an argument here anymore

I think the implicit suggestion that she's being greedy is silly. No where in her open letter does she demean fans for using a streaming service. Doesn't sound entitled to me, and her popularity actually lead to a change on Apple's end, so good on her.

Son of snow youre free to believe statements like that. The thing is, I struggle with that.

Also even if it were True that she crusades for the underprivileged, i think that demanding more money frommen streaming will ultimatley not help. The streaming Services are buisnesses. They will charge the customers. And the Internet has proven that customers are not willing to pay.
