the cymbals around the 3rd minute sound kinda shitty...it might be because of my headphones though

no dude you're right the production really sounds grating
the song is alright otherwise.. it just sounds terrible. hopefully it's not the finished product

Pumped af now that I've heard the single, def sounds like something from CtS which is awesome because that's my favourite. Art rules too, and agreed with whoever said it looks like the Blood Mountain art a bit, hopefully the album sounds like a blend of BM and CtS.

Oh man that leaked single. Quality was from a bad rip but still, strong Blood Mountain and CtS vibes.

I'm not getting Crack the Skye vibes at all, other than that scale used for the interwoven guitar lick. The drumming is the watered-down shuffly stuff that Brann's been doing the last couple albums with the same two fills every time, the riffs are very repetitive and safe, and nothing has time to evolve or breathe -- see how the vocals jump in after only a few seconds before there's even a groove established, and how it just...ends like they ran out of recording budget. There's nothing fresh about it, and I'm disappointed that this is the same band that used to bust out incendiary compositions like Aqua Dementia and Crystal Skull but now takes four minutes to churn out something with like, three chords and no climax or sense of direction.
tl;dr *checks watch to see how much longer until The Ocean drops their next album*

yeah i gotta agree with seven. dunno where the crack the skye or blood mountain vibes are coming from, at all..

I almost started singing I BURNED OUT MY EYES...I CUT OFF MY TONGUE. whatever, it's not bad I guess. beats listening to A7X ripping off Metallica on Liquid Metal XM.

Little underwhelmed, but they'll never match the energy on aqua dementia

little underwelmed, though I like the vocal melodies. The ending is a bit weird, but maybe it has to do with how the next song starts. I guess we can only wait and see. They seem confident, give them the benefit of the doubt.

I can't disagree with what Seven said, but what I am trying to say is that it sounds like... Mastodon to me, like for the good and for the bad. Kind of what happened with the last Meshuggah album, it's what it is. They will never sound like in Leviathan, EVER, that shit is unique. But let's see gentlemen, most bands go full circle, after a couple of weaker albums there should be a comeback, I want to believe.

I mean, they're too good to release something super lame. So for all my complaining about 2010+ Mastodon, I'm still gonna buy the album and get excited when it reaches the Billboard Top 5 or wherever it lands and probably see them on tour because they can't sing worth shit but damned if I'm gonna give up on them for just playing it safe.

There were a couple of riffs that I thought were super generic and lame but for the most part, that new song was better than almost the entirety of the past two albums

"It's a little bit of the same as the last album, but I think it goes even deeper in certain areas — a couple of more psychedelic parts, a little more technical parts. There are a couple of new places we haven't gone before. So it's just kind of a continuation of the last record to me, but even deeper."
damn. So basically itll be Round the Sun 2.0
