"A lot of metal is cheesy by some definition"

Depends a lot on what constitutes "cheesy" for you I reckon, I wouldn't classify this in that camp. Tends to be more of a power metal category

If you use a violin in your metal, you are hardcore flirting with cheese.

I don't think that really makes much sense to me tbh, but to each their own.

A violin in metal isn't flirting with cheesy? What kind of shitty opinion is that?

Note I didn't say it was bad cheese.

I dont think violins are inherently cheesy. A bit dramatic maybe.

In grandiose prog metal albums such as this one, yes they are chessy af. I actually don't mind the use of violins here though.

Not sure if the hostility is directed at me, but I don't think that the violin inherently adds cheese to any given piece of music. What quality does it offer that makes it that way?

I agree w/ art that it adds dramatic flair to an album, which isn't a bad or cheesy thing, unless drama is now cheesy. It's another layer to the sound a band is trying to convey. If it is used in a flamboyant/bombastic fashion, I can see it being called otherwise. However, it is implemented here very naturally and doesn't feel forced or hogging the spotlight.

Yeah, I think these guys and Persefone get too much credit on this site.
I just find them inherently boring tbh. But that's just my opinion and don't let it stop you from enjoying the musics

And I think that no instrument will feel outta place if it's done well enough. Gotta love that sax on After

I got no problem with what people love/hate, just curious to people's opinions on violins. If there are those that think it's cheesy I'm not out to change minds, just offering my perspective.

"Persefone get too much credit"

Hard disagree, still crazy underrated/unknown across the board.

Violins are fine just not in metal.

I think it's cause I prefer like 4 other genres of metal to prog. To me, Core sucked big time and it's got like 4.2 average here. But again, just my opinion, mate.
