sounds like you have a rather extreme opinion about it, like it sounds like you hate it a little unnecessarily.

my reaction to it is admittedly influenced by the ridiculously high, unwarranted praise it receives. normally i'd just call it a boring album, but it's in its fans undying need to justify whatever they do and praise it no matter how dull or uninspired/nondescript it sounds

i mean no offence but "boring" isnt a legitimate criticism. 9 times out of 10 boring has more to do with the listener than it does the music

TH is their most ambient release but that doesnt mean its boring, jacquard causeway through come to dust is some of the most engaging music theyve ever made

well i can't speak for anybody else but i resent this statement and would hope you respect my taste enough to know that I wouldn't fall in with this kind of thinking no matter who the artist is and I still really really like TH

probably gonna end up triple posting here but to elaborate on my 2 word agreement with your statement hype here is an example:

I will call some ambient that I listen to boring

when I say this it is in no ways a criticism of the music or album itself and more just a statement about the fact that it doesn't meet my personal needs, as simple as that

or that I wasn't in the right headspace

boring is a perfectly legitimate criticism, it means i think it's uninteresting and tedious. how is calling something boring not a valid criticism? i mean, everything's subjective, does that mean all criticisms are invalid?

Hard to agree with the TH unwarranted praise claim when it's their lowest rated album.

yeah anyone who listend to boards of canada should know that their music is in no way immediate, it takes time and effort to listen to it, and the reward for that effort is much more than with more immediate music

TH has the most engaging, extensive atmosphere theyve ever created. it is their mastery of the album as a format to release music under, to the point where he album would honestly suffer had one track been out of place.

make sure youre in the right headspace for it, because it is quite a different listen than their earlier material, but once you are nothing else quite comes close

i don't think it's bad per se, i do think it's exhausting to listen to and tedious as all hell though.

their songs used to be so interesting, so multi-faceted, so detailed. their new album has a very small

sonic palette compared to their other works

The heavy sense of atmosphere with Tommorow's Harvest comes with its cohesion. It sounds like a single driving entity throughout, like an incidental soundtrack of desolate and decayed places, whereas previous Boards of Canada albums (with the exception of a few interludes connecting pieces) sound like a collection of different sketches playing within an overreaching sonic identity.
