He's far from overrated, but I will say that he's very sloppy when he plays live. Both instrumentally and vocally.

He's sloppier than a two dollar hooker for sure. Haven't ever seen him play something clean and I've watched a lot of content.

It's more the creativity that's prodigy level.

In their prime he was pretty solid. I saw them after Doppelganger came out with Portugal The Man (before they went downhill), and all three members were super tight, especially Thomas. BUT, when I saw them on the Doppelganger anniversary tour, dude was a mess on stage.

I can't decide if I like this more than DBMII or not. Both have the nostalgia factor, but more so with this. As a drummer, I was instantly hooked to Matt's playing style.
