"cult of luna > neurosis > isis"
i think i believed this at a certain point in time and now would probably go the exact opposite. Cult of Luna are easily the least imaginative band of the three and their schtick has grown off my a fair bit with the new one. the greats hold up and I think the Beyond might be my 2nd fav HEAVY album of the three (after TSIB), but I could live without hearing most of their discog again. need to give Salvation a reappraisal soon. Neurosis are awful for casual listening but never fail to deliver at their best, but ISIS' craft for atmosphere is easily the most developed of the three and I think have aged the best as such
"take Kayo Dot out and that’s a rather tasty menu"
i am sorry for putting a band with an accomplished creative vision in front of someone who actively recommended the Ocean as essential post metal in another thread

"lets not slander the ocean"
appreciate that the vast disparity between the may put strain on the comparison, but anyone poseurposting while doubling down on one of the most basic bitch Art Project metal bands in the game warrants that chat

I was just agreeing with Johnny on SOME of the ocean's output

precamb disc 2 is more egregious for the Welcome To My Portfolio factor tbh, at least pelagial embraces that it's a prog nerd's lucky dip

Johnny’s not wrong but to read CoL as “least imaginative” made me want to trade in my phone to make sure I’m not reading that wrong
like LOL dude
yes give Salvation another listen, it definitely holds up like how The Beyond did (props on recognizing that record as heavy as it is”

That album alone should be hailed a classic and I’m waiting on a repress. It came out on the same year as Panopticon and it’s so dumb to read other people saying they were copying Isis when they were bands in different countries and different popularity level compared to how they’d be two albums later and 2004 was a slow year. This website alone took shape on the internet in 2005 and was into myspacecore and butt indie prog rock, not close to the internet’s malformed attention.

Agree w/ jotw isis > neurosis > col
Also I’ll take it a step further and say that at this point in my life i genuinely find most CoL boring. It’s taken me a while to admit to myself and i don’t say it lightly. Their music still means a lot to me

Isis is definitely greater than Neurosis. I wrote it and it’s the truth.
