Using the word trite doesn't make you appear smart, not since 2006. In order to become smart you have to closely analyze Maynard's mindbending lyrics.

"Using the word trite doesn't make you appear smart"

yeah use the word banal instead because people will mispronounce it as [b]anal and you can laugh at them

I just got into Meredith Monk's masterpiece 'Dolmen Music', what a freakin' trip. But one part of the title track (starting around 18:05 into the piece) made me wonder whether Tool were directly influenced it. Particularly that electric percussion part in the beginning of Pneuma.

i was so disappointed by this when it first dropped, but listening now idk what i was on. i think all that build up to the release made it impossible to meet expectations, but in reality, it didnt have to. it subverted mine and honestly its such a phenomonal album, love it more every time i revisit. puts you into a trance

All the mad narratives around a Tool album are a part of the experience. But they can disrupt the trance-inducing qualities. It's not easy to let go.

do we think we're going to get any new music in the next decade?

If by "new music" you mean will Adam dig up 15 year old riffs and jam out with the rest of the guys until things are structured enough to send to Maynard who will write some half-assed drivel before singing boringly into a microphone while stomping a bucket of grapes? Probably.
