If Orchid 'counts' that's different. Probably not but there's definitely melo-death like bits in early Opeth.

There is but they still aren’t melodeath

Agreed, maybe that's why they're so good.

Do you ever feel like morningrise is a 5? Sometimes it’s like that for me then other times it feels more like a 4.5? I’m indecisive

Yeah, I have it at 4.5 but I'm quite picky when it comes to 5s. I decided to promote GR instead making Opeth the only artist I have with 3 5s. It does vary a little in enjoyment, on a good day it could be a 5 & on a bad day perhaps a high 4. 4.5 sounds right to me.
Derailed the In Flames thread...

Probably yeah, hoping it's like old school ATG (not including that Fear album you seem to love & that I need to revisit). Perhaps it's not though.

Hang on, I haven't heard Battles yet...

I haven't heard anything the band has done post Come Clarity. Judging by their ratings here, I'm not missing out on anything.

It was a joke, if I'm being serious I've only heard this, Black Ash, Whoracle & Colony but I don't even have the others in the same stratosphere.

Clayman and Subterranean are worth a listen

Yeah, Clayman is good. Haven't heard Subterranean.

Is Clayman worth a listen to someone who gave Colony 3/5 though? That's the question.

Just do it man.
Jester and Clayman are my 2 favourite IF albums

I prefer clayman to colony. Better guitar tone, better drumming, more experimentation with synths and songwriting that works well
