first half is the best part wtf
Definitely. If anything, it’s a bit front loaded, hence my 4 not being a 4.5 or 5.

first half is the "pop" side, second half is more of the "experimental" deep cut side, both go hard af

Both are solid (back half has ATWA and Aerials), I just prefer the first half and find it more intense, forceful, all around more affecting.

Yea, the second half is a little more melancholic and colourful. I never thought of the album being halfs though. It's like a colour gradient to me. The album slowly sinks into more introspective stuff

SOAD aren't a nu metal band and anyone who thinks they are is wrong

Album Rating: 4.5
Soad only gets lumped with the term cuz of the time frame they were popular

I think a lot of bands get labeled as nu because of that, like this, chevelle , nothinface, static x etc even tho none of those bands really utilize hip hop or like funk in their music

People like to hate on Daron but 95% of self-titled, toxicity and STA was written entirely by him, all the guitar, bass and drum parts. Which is actually surprising as I thought Shavo and John had more input on the writing process but I guess it has always been Daron's project.

The short burst yell-fests kind of have no governing presence on this album. I feel like they all sound the same. That and Science is one of my least favorite SOAD songs. Aerials, Deer Dance, and Toxicity though? Certified classics.
