I already stated this but Light the shortening fuse is so reminiscent of Textures it makes me sad and nostalgic. Textures were so damn good and underrated man... And the closer track, Past Tense, is so spine chillin yet relaxing... Man does this album rule.

I think this is Top 3 Meshuggah at this point. I think this is one of their most complex albums, yet there is a sense of cohesion along it that never really gets away. To accomplish that in their brand of metal is really really hard. I feel this is flying over people heads and they're not really witnessing how good this is. I could give it a 5 any moment.

Ugh, I was going to see them in February but because of fucking COVID they rescheduled their NY date to the date of one of my best friends wedding, and I'm in the wedding party.

They're also one of his favorite bands, so we are mutually suffering but now I keep telling him that he's not allowed to get divorced since I'm missing Meshuggah for them lol

It kinda sucks to be a fan with unmet expectations, but hey, you can't win them all

Absolutely super good.

Sucks Lucca, perhaps you should swap the tapes and make their first dance be on The Mouth Licking What You've Bled.

I already suggested they walk down to the isle to Demiurge

Also yeah, the second half of Light the Shortening Fuse is one of my favorite sections of the album

This is a prett ycool interview with Tomas Haake

https://thequietus.com/articles/31594-meshuggah-interview

I chuckled at this bit :

Standing atop the metal fray, their warping of the space-time continuum continues, making them custodians of a pulverising onslaught so potent and singular that a whole sub-genre, the unpoetically named ‘djent’, has ended up having to be invented to accommodate it.

For the white-haired giant at the helm however, this, along with everything else, is no big deal. “I think we all take a certain amount of pride in that. At the end of the day it's humbling. If they wanna see us as the founding fathers, it’s cool,” Haake shrugs graciously.

“We’ll take it. I do sometimes have negative connotations too though, because some bands that are djent lack the absolutely necessary set of balls that you have to have to do something for me."

So this is starting to become my favorite 'Shuggah album since C33. Really loving that the more melodic and atmospheric moments have been reintroduced into the band's sound

Mmmmmm Textures was deeply underrated. I'd never spoken to a single person who knew of them until I was hammered at a bar in Vancouver and a buddy introduced me to a friend and said "I think you have the same musical taste?"

The guy turns out to be Dutch and within seconds we were raving about Textures and he spoke about how emotional and wonderful their final few shows were. So jealous.

[2] about the melodies Kor. Definitely true.

Don't like it as much as Koloss or obZen but still, super enjoyable.
