"if death metal changed then it wouldnt be death metal, it would be something else, just like any other genre"
Not really true at all, most genres tend to go through a series of waves or changes. Like there's a reason to make a distinction between first wave black metal and second wave black metal. And parksungjoon actually made some good points on the last page, I can see the argument for why the terms old school dm and revival dm were more needed around the early 2000s and even late 2000s. But at this point in time, I'm sure most people could agree the terms have outlived their usefulness.
All that said tho who cares theyre just genre tags they make no sense anyway and mean very little
I just wanted to rag on those youtube comments from losers who think BI are for posers

But also just on the note of genres changing over time, it's not as stupid as ny wording may have you believe.
Rock music is inherently different to what rock music was when it started. There is a large leap between what most would call plain rock music now and what we'd call rock music 60+ years ago. And if someone new were to come out banging some music that sounds like Little Richard, it would make sense to call it old school rock n roll, yknkw?
Metalcore in the 90s is not the same as metalcore in the 2000s is not the same as metalcore in the 2010s and we still only have one name for standard metalcore.
And basically every genre ever, you can just do this argument for most genres that are still going around.
I just thought it was funny to note that just plain death metal has changed surprisingly little in its core sound from the beginning. But I would also argue it was a genre filled with so many distinct cultural sounds from different states and countries at the same time that maybe it grew outward much faster than some other genres. I may just be ignorant, but are there mamy genres that within a decade you could pinpoint the location they came from simply because most of the bands in each area had developed a unique cultural sound?
Man i love death metal so much it's so fucking cool

I don’t know shit about metal and I also ain’t really following this conversation but I’ll add useless opinions anyway and say genres shift overtime and genres vary in sound by region

I forgot to mention this here: I interviewed these guys before they played in Buffalo on their tour with Immolation for my school's newspaper back in October. Super awesome dudes.
