alsobimma clear things up here for y’all
this is not a sput band just cuz of the attention this garnered and the love the previous records acclaimed over the years. it would’ve taken two more years or for vertikal to appear for the s/t to get a review if I didn’t do it.
converge is. it’s sput lore, can’t argue against it
flug is right in Silent Man being the new best intro track

Converge are so iconic outside of this site that I don't think they count either, but it depends on your interpretation.
Either way it's a stupid 'tag' so who cares really.

sputnik could have never existed and converge would still be the best/most important hardcore band of the past two decades.

In fact Converge's impact is so keenly felt that I used to frequent a very niche British indie site and they were still noteworthy! Didn't Pitchfork do a feature where they reviewed all their albums retrospectively? Was very much an indie site (now a shitty art-pop one). Yeah, they're known everywhere.

yea but that’s not the point of calling anything a sput band (a tag, really dude? lol) it’s just another way of saying what’s stayed the site’s adoration over years of changing sput generations. of course the acclaim exists outside the site, that’s why they got the attention to begin with. No one is arguing that except you lol.

That's fair, it just riles me slightly when people use that phrase... Sometimes there are assumptions and negative connotations associated with being 'Sputcore', the OP asked if CoL were over-hyped simply due to their presumed popularity here.

"I just think it's a useless phrase and usually has no bearing on their standing outside of this website"
see you said it yourself. no one ever meant it as more than an in-joke or in-boxing of a darling band in the decade and a half of people calling godspeed or converge that term. even brand new with sowing riding their dick for the past 10 years, you can't escape seeing that name for less than a week here.
"For me, a Sput band should be one who's popularity here is significantly greater than elsewhere relative to other music"
by that standard those bands would more than not have 10 ratings and have virtually little reach outside of their hometown/country type of impact.

I was suggesting a way the term might make an iota of sense, if it was provable in any way (not sure it is). In general the phrase should just be scrapped/wiped from the record books forever, either that or I need to start ignoring its usage, but honestly the first option seems preferable.

yea but it's a term used way before your joindate so it's gonna continue whether you like it or not. makes more sense back then when there was more a community to rave on certain bands and music discovery wasn't as easy as now, but there's nothing wrong with championing what you like as long as you're not annoying about it.
