"lol that was obviously a reaction post by neekafat
no one on earth thinks that i'm pretty sure"
Lol I do love casing a stir but I do prefer this to Justice, this is more dynamic and not as flat, if Justice didn't have One on it I wouldn't remember anything about it

They played Halo on Fire when I saw them last month and it completely bombed. Same with Now That We're Dead--completely unnecessary additions to the setlist. Everything else was solid, though. Halo on Fire goes hard.
I wouldn't have gone with both Black Album ballads, but I guess they're all but obligated to play them.

i would've liked to have seen spit out the bone or that was just your life or all nightmare long or hell even frantic over stuff like now that we're dead but idk something about seeing james play snare drum marches made me all giddy inside
if you want to see a truly bad generic setlist check out what muse is playing this tour

'Secondly, the setlist for Metallica's current tour is generic to say the least. I would have rather seen them play "...And Justice for All" for the sole purpose of intigrating the statue into the stage and watching it crumble apart, and because "...And Justice for All" is one of their best written songs. I would have also liked to hear "Harvester of Sorrows," "My Friend of Misery," "The Day That Never Comes," "Creeping Death," "Ride the Lightning," "Sanitarium," "Whiskey in the Jar," and "Blackened."'
Well they played AJFA quite a bit on their previous tour and Harvester has been in the setlist quite a bit over the last 20 years. It is also being rotated on the current US leg along with Creeping Death, Ride The Lightning, Sanitarium, and Blackened.

Rogue dude, I do enjoy all of the songs on here but I do agree that it would be better if it was shorter.
My personal preference would be:
Hardwired
Atlas
Now That Were Dead
Moth
Dream
Halo
Here Comes Revenge (that riff is awesome man)
Spit

lars' drumming is so laughably basic on here.
not that he needs to be Neil Peart-level technical, but holy shit he has just straight up thrown in the towel on trying to make anything worthwhile.

I said this to everyone but here is how many parts of the the drum he uses:
- the snare drum (of course)
- the bass drum (technically with one bass drum it's enough but the idiot needs 2 bass drums because of the thrash metal logic)
- the hi-hat cymbal.
And that's it. Cheapest drum set in history.

As for kirk's work is pretty basic:
- Take a song
- Cut the song in 2 parts
- Ask James to do all the work in the first part
- Leave Kirk's wah wah for the rest of the second part until the end of the song.
- Job's done

Albeit true, but at least those songs provide a nice throwback and opportunity to introduce new fans to their back catalog. "Hardwired... to Self-Destruct" threw 12 songs on an album to see what stuck. This strategy rarely works out, and to be honest, this go-round didn't do that well either. 3 at the most were favored, but the rest seemed like mere concepts more than anything.

To further expand, Metallica experimented with different styles both lyrically and instrumentally. For example, "Here Comes Revenge" experimented with a more atmospheric approach for the intro and exploded into a fast-paced chorus. "Dream No More" reintroduced their "Black Album" style with a few tweaks, and "Spit Out the Bone" was a return to their older thrash style. Much like I said about Imagine Dragons, Metallica has nothing left to prove and therefore does not attempt to make a statement. The album was fan service rather than anything monumental. It was nice to see a new Metallica album, but was it necessary? "Death Magnetic" was released to restore Metallica back to their traditional metal sound after 3 albums of hard rock and whatever "St. Anger" was supposed to be. Yet, "Hardwired... to Self-Destruct" had no motivation behind it aside from fans asking for another album. However, I think fans were looking for another U.S. tour rather than a new album.

Although i agree with you, tour wise, it wasn't their strategy this time around. 10 of the 18 songs played come off of 2 albums - the new one and the black album. Tons of new fans and no better way to do it than with the black album, for obvious reasons.
Old school fans are not the target audience, the gyro keeps spinning man.
With all that, the show was amazing, the best I've ever seen of them.
