Thou I've been lurking this place from 2013, i can certainly see better albums always sits between 3.8-4.4, not counting some classic jazz stuff and few exceptions. There are lots 5 for pop sell-out recently, so yeah those 5 mean nothing usually.

33 out of the 804 ratings I have. I think a 5 can be pretty much whatever you think it should be for an album. And i don't think the number you have devalues what you think is a "classic" for an album, so to speak.

ratings are completely subjective and, honestly, pretty arbitrary anyways. trying to assign a value to something to determine it's worth is a pointless endeavor when you consider all the variables. there's a good chance your feelings of an album you adore will dwindle over time, affecting your enjoyment and thus your rating. i think acad rates mostly everything a 5 because he gets that ratings have no real value.
