Splendor riffs so much harder, it still has the more restrained & atmospheric moments too, but the balls are there, whereas this is mainly impotent. Yeah I could’ve used a better analogy but I’m drunk so whatever.

Splendor is way more morose in tone. This record on the other hand feels more ornate and pompous.

I find this dull for the same reasons I find Rivers of Nihil dull. Might be a bit harsh but hey, that's the truth.

ne obliviscaris is a dumb persons idea of smart music. Might be a bit harsh but hey, that's the truth. [2]

has a sort of cheesy charm but is, for the most part, flaccid and a little kitsch

A lot of metal is cheesy by some definition, I guess Splendor is heavier when it wants to be & has more variation in song-writing (for me), there are 'prettier' moments sporadically placed throughout the run-time to keep thing interesting, whereas this seems to rely on that aspect a lot more. Not really sure where the comparison came from in the first place though, only on the most superficial level can I see the similarities.

"splendor is cheesy af tho"
"This is cheese incarnate but I love it"
ITT people who learn how things are comparable.
"only on the most superficial level can I see the similarities."
Now you are too harsh on yourself.

I mean if you don’t like this then that’s understandable, cheese and whatnot.
I don’t get the boring argument though tbh, the songwriting on here is so expansive and varied.

elitist dicks strike again. Nice to see music being used as a conduit to look down on others
