"God damn this has a lot more mature songwriting than I was ever expecting. If some people were saying Suburbia was their Deja Entendu, this more than lived up to the standards of being their Devil and God."

Are you fucking kidding me?

Lyrically, the new one's the best they ever did. It didn't grip me as much musically as Suburbia though.

Yeah I agree with clercqie, the music on TGG isn't quite as good as Suburbia's on first listen, but I'm 100% sure it will grow on me, probably to a 5.

"it's really telling of some of your ages and life experiences if soupy's lyrics fail to spark even the slightest relation"

This.

Wonder Years records never grip me musically on early listens. That's why I'm so dismissive of people who give it one listen and are like "yep, shitty pop punk". If you're listening beyond the hooks it's not that hard to realize that the grooves and arrangments here are pretty goddamn compelling and WAY more innovative than anything else in pop punk.

yeah anyways i'll say this again andcas since you seemed to miss it the first time but LYRICS CAN'T MAKE AN ALBUM GOOD FOR ME

if that were the case you could take some inspirational speach and play it over some guy hitting a trash can with a lid and say that it's a great album

Gotta agree with Lakes. Can't 5 an album that's not musically worth a 5 just because the lyrics are awesome.

Personally, I never go through the lyrics until I have a settled opinion on the music.

Yes because people use the "who cares about lyrics?! It's catchy!" Argument for shit music all the time.

oh yea, that one's a classic

i mean i love it when the lyrics are well done, but if they're not it's not a dealbreaker for me as it is some people it seems

On the other hand, if the music is awesome, but the lyrics make no sense at all that can detract from the total experience as well.
