Some band called Capra did a live YouTube at knotfest and killed it. Someone needs to review their album, looks like a few of you enjoy them.

Nah, s/t’s anger is more spry but this album is pure malevolence. If this album had eyes they would be pure black

Why was Slipknot hated so much back in the day? I get that they carry the whole nu-metal stigmata but there's very decent stuff here and on their s/t yet they get panned on sites such as sputnik and rym.

They got hate because they were nu-metal adjacent and popular and gatekeeping metal heads hate those two things more than anything

I was on the Slipknot hate bandwagon in high school but I never knew why. Something something simple riffs, drop tunings bad, masks are gay, listen to Dream Theater instead.

Unfortunately so was I. My entire friend circle was composed of prog metal nerds, so we did so much gatekeeping at the time. My senior year was when I finally realized "hey, maybe I'm kind of a close-minded douche!" and started expanding my horizons. I think switching from band class to drama class helped a lot too, tbh
Then again, I do remember 2005-2010 timeframe being one of the absolute worst times when it came to metal gatekeeping. I have to imagine that it's because people were able to hurl whatever insults they wanted with the power of social media, without facing a lot of the censorship or repercussions that social media has implemented now

It’s funny proggy metal heads hated this/the band in general, because when you think about it, their first 3 records are very progressive albeit not in the traditional sense we apply to music

@DivergentThinking Mate, I reckon I was just you but 4 years later. I feel like I was on the tail end of that kind of weird elitism being (sorta) trendy within metalhead culture. Now it seems like a lot of metalheads have realised how cringe that is and are opting for a somewhat more open-minded "Carly Rae Jepson is the one good pop artist" kind of approach
Progress is progress I guess

That was an awesome performance too. Conan's definitely one of the best talk show hosts out there

facts, I was a part of that minus the neckbeard energy. used to think that it helped guiding noobs to more worthwhile underground releases and now I can’t be fucked to care with that time and energy.

I think a prime example of the elitist mindset back then was when Five Finger Death Punch were actually on Metal Archives back in 2008-2009 timeframe before they got taken off. I went on the review page for one of their albums, hit Ctrl+f, typed in "gay" and found about 10-15 results
