Cut ARoP and Wither (ah, that one isn't that bad, but not exactly their best ballad), ignore the lyrics and laugh at Portnoys vocals, and this might be one of their finest.

I jammed this last week after not jamming DT in a while and kinda came to the same conclusion lmao

The Best Of Times is amazing (and lead to one of the best guitar covers on the internet) and Count Of Tuscany slaps, but most of this album is just dull by-the-numbers Dream Theater

Count of Tuscany lyrics are way too fucking stupid for me to enjoy. It straight up ruins the song for me, which sucks because I would prob otherwise like it more. Same goes for the opening track.

The Count of Tuscany is unbelievably stupid, agreed
A guy invites another guy to drink some wine
The other guy has some fantasy about being killed
The first guy is like: "wtf no I just want to drink some wine lul"
And then it's blown out of proportion way too much
|
| |
Yeah but Count Of Tuscany musically is probably their strongest song

Agreed. Also its probs their most consistent outing post train of thought. Still need to jam their new one.

@Zodd I haven't heard the newest album either but almost everything they've done with Mangini besides The Astonishing surprisingly holds up pretty well imo, so I'll have to give it a spin soon here too
