I'm of two minds about this album. Part of me considers this some of the most easy-listening rock/post-metal/whatever and the other part of me thinks I'm undervaluing the complexities of it after seeing Portnoy try for like 8 hours to decipher Pneuma on Drumeo and still struggle mightily. At times I feel like this album pretends to undermine our expectations while simultaneously going over our heads.

yeah Christbait, one of their greatest strengths as a band is making compositionally complex songs sound relatively straight forward

+ my fav bit is Carey going absolutely crazy but never overdrumming, to me it never feels like he is taking away from the cohesiveness of the tracks

He's my favorite drummer and tool is my favorite band but he is overplaying all over this album.

I have had nearly 6 friends in my lifetime tell me that Tool sucks etc... and then several years later every single one of them is like "man I Iove Tool now, not sure why I didn't dig them sooner". Take that as you will

I had the exact opposite reaction where I loved these guys back in my latter days of high school / early college and now think they are extremely over-bloated and very pretentious.
