is this nu-metal? i get why it’s lumped in, but it’s just alt metal I think.

def not nu metal, it's alt metal. prolly just called nu metal because it's gained commercial success, no hallmarks of that genre at all tho

I don't know what nu-metal even is and at this point I'm too afraid to even ask.
Almost every criticism towards nu-metal doesn't even apply to the good albums under the label.

nu-metal is more a time period than a sub-genre which is kind of weird and many random bands get lumped in with each other under that label. Just goes to show how weird the late 90s/early 00s were

yeah it was when omegashite bands like slipknot enjoyed the shade staying under the same umbrella as deftones, korn, or 10 years

I completely missed the boat on 10 Years until a few years ago, were they lumped into the nu-metal tag as well? I thought they were considered post-grunge like Seether and the like. I never considered them nu-metal at ALL except for maybe like 2 riffs lol

they were for like three album cycles
I, honestly, woulda lumped them with chevelle or something personally

Chevelle had a few "nu metal hits" like The Red but I feel like they joined the disparate post-grunge movement along with 10 Years very quickly. If they were considered nu-metal it didn't last that long

The biggest indicator of nu metal I've come to recognize over the years is the presence of fast paced lyrics, you could call it rap or whatever, but I think the focus is a high bpm or tempo. High energy and visceral tones all around.

One of many bands from this era that I never really clicked with, I guess I'll need to re-check these at some point as it's long overdue. I really enjoyed Chop Suey and Prison Song though, and the title track to Toxicity, so i'll probably start with that album.
