i hate catch fire so much lol absolute sandpaper to me. spencers most obnoxious vocal performance by a mile and his melody sucks ass. one of the worst songs ive heard by any djent band (and ive been round the block!)
lune is the only front to back song i wouldnt turn off. absolomb/remain indoors start good and drag foreeeeever and lose their shine fast, and flatline starts bad and only gets good in the last minute, and those are my "favorites" lol

Really the only song I actually dislike Spencer on is Make Total Destroy. He just doesn't fit the super wanky riffing that well for me. He shines way better on the catchier hooks - Parade of Ashes is one of my favorite tracks for a reason. It's such a fun, dancey number.
It's kinda wild to me that my absolute favorite Periphery song "drags" to some people (it's Absolomb), but I guess I'm used to that at this point.

Catch Fire is a bop and probably my favorite of the Backstreet Boys-esque Periphery songs. Silhouette by comparison is probably my least favorite and my only hard skip on P5.

Catch Fire is great

Silhouette is my fav here for how wildly different it is for Periphery. love it when these bands branch out and do new stuff that breaks the formula.

The two most melodically focused albums of theirs are their worst? Interesting.

"The two most melodically focused albums"
4 has more melody than both of those albums combined, hell even this one does

I'll admit when they do songs like Catch Fire I invoke Journey and I get that same energy

I feel like this happens to be really melodic at parts by default cuz it sounds like "Callbacks: The Album" in that you can pinpoint specific parts of their career all over apart from Silhouette.
P4 you can make a case for (especially with Satellites my GOD that's a top 5er right there), I just kinda wore off tracks like Blood Eagle and CHVRCH BVRNER after a bit. Still good, just not my usual go-tos. Meanwhile P3 has Marigold, The Way the News Goes, Absolomb, again Catch Fire, and Lune that are all more melodic prog/emotional. Then Alpha has stuff like Heavy Heart, 22 Faces and Psychosphere, so good. Omega's an honorable mention for stuff like the t/t and Stranger Things.
TL;DR: I kinda just want them to make a whole album focused on the melodies at this point...and bring back the "miseraaaaayyyyy" jfc the lack of it actually kinda bogs this down

I miss the cohesion of Juggernaut in some of the newer stuff. The reused motifs, the general vibe, it's just different on Juggernaut. The rest of Periphery's albums are all fun and varying degrees of great but Juggernaut is my favorite album (yes, I consider it one album) of any band.

P2 should be in contention but I still can't get completely on board with Make Total Destroy. The riff is so offkilter and weird and sounds like it shouldn't fit.

if i hear "miseray" on the next album i will 1 on the spot that is most annoyingly pronounced word in all of this modern metal
thank god the rest of the veil album owns to make up for the one sickeningly dogshit hook that works it in lmao
