im trying to like a band becuase i listen to music to enjoy it. I WANT to enjoy what I hear so I try to like it in order to enjoy it. That way an album is good until proven bad. I want to enjoy the things I hear becuase enjoying an album makes me happy. your disreguarding that this is tool but I dont think thats really makes sense. Tool is constantly overpraised all the time on this site, i hear the over the top praise and i WANT to hear what others see in this. I not only want to understand the hyperbole surrounding the album but also the people who love it. And as a result i do. im also not the only one who does this becuase ive seen many others (on this site and off) who do the same. I stand by what i said about the vocals...whether something is catchy or memorable is dependent on the listener. I think rihannas music is catchy and infectious but i know people who dont think their infectious at all. "memorable" just means something that sticks out when remembering the album so its dependent on the individual type of memory. The type of listener I am, and the type memory I have leads me to not remember his performance very fondly. You cant say that whether its catchy is objective in any way like you can technicality. Any one saying tool arent talented musicians is misguided, but any one saying their lacks something to grab on is guided by their opinion only, and not by lack of intellect or taste etc.

that's my definition of "trying to like something", in your 1st post I thought you meant it this way, like you heard the album about 10 times just to find something to like.

But I agree, if I listen to something about 2-3 times and I find it uninteresting, why the hell should I try more times to like it?

This album is pure sex. If only more bands would have the exposure Tool gets. I know people want good music like this

but they're just too lazy to look for it. Marketing is huge for that reason. Bands like Fiver Finger Death Punch and

Disturbed have millions of hits on youtube because they have the exposure most metal bands dream of. Tool is just

one of the good ones.



This is the album Ill be giving my kids one day when they ask who my favorite band is, just like my dad did with Selling

England By The Pound by Genesis with me. Tool will stand the test of time just like Zep, Sabbath, Crimson, Genesis and

the likes have. Great band regardless of their hype.



I saw them live a couple weeks ago BTW. Flawless performance and trippy as shit.
