I've been saying this, it isn't just Jack making this music, Lorde and all the other girlies have their hand in it

jack's hand on this is undeniable, same as those other singers' records where he's involved
best part of this is the lyrics tho, and those are by lorde alone

Everything she said in that statement made complete sense and I'm going to assume anyone who has a problem with it is crusty af

And yeah it is pretty sexist to discredit anything the females do on these albums and think it's all Jack

obviously if one guy is doing all the instrumentals for several different albums by several different artists there's gonna be uniformities in their sound. not sexist to point that out ffs

"And yeah it is pretty sexist to discredit anything the females do on these albums and think it's all Jack"
it's not sexist to point out that your producer made your album sound like every other pop album he's gotten his hands on

She called the narrative — which has also included speculation about the pair’s romantic and sexual life — “retro” and “sexist.”

Uh yeah, gonna have to play a huge death-of-the-artist card on that statement. Could not care less what the ins and outs of creative participation are (as long as there's nothing toxic, which no-one has ever claimed to be the case), because the results speak for themselves. Compare the differences in lyrics between any two Antonoff-produced artists with the differences in arrangements and style and tell me that music doesn't erase points of individuality more than it accents them. Who cares who's making those choices. We can view Antonoff as a facilitator rather than an orchestrator all we like, but stale pop is stale pop
Tbqh I haven't been completely honest with myself in recognising Lorde's creative involvement this cycle because both tracks were so disappointing and, paradoxically, I respect her as an artist a damn sight more than the likes of LDR or Clairo. It's much easier (and doubtless partially accurate) to scapegoat Antonoff for copypasting a D-tier Lana song as a Lorde single, but if she wants creative credit for that, that's on her.

Every time I see a comment that size I just don't even fucking read it.

especially when half of the time what johnny says is nonsense, you can’t gamble and commit to caring about it

arguments about bland white girl pop go so far over your head as it is that it might as well have been in japanese tbh
