Had never heard of them and they opened for At the gates in a pub outside manchester about 100 people around 1996 maybe and they started with 'Nights blood' and my fking jaw dropped.

One of the only good things about being older is some of the legends you saw in small venues and shows had people going crazy from the off rather than worrying about the 500 pound/dollar phones in their pocket

Yeah, Dissection/Cradle of Filth double headliner with In Flames and Dimmu Borgir as opening acts was pretty wild in 1997. It wasn't as small as the one you mentioned. Medium sized venue, maybe 700 people there.
