But Fortress has the ridiculous run of Blood Meat through to Sequoia Throne, Limb from Limb and Wretch...

The biggest runs of consistency this band was on this album and Scurrilous. Sure, both (especially Scurrilous) take a lot from Sieges Even's Sophisticated but Fortress was all over the place.

It doesn't really help that Fortress came out in a period that had a lot of better prog metal albums coming out at the time.

"Which albums are you talking about Casavir?"

Sophisticated by Sieges Even from 1995. I've called it Protest the Hero's best kept secret in my rating explanation for that album.

Even many of the best vocal moments on this are largely reminiscent of a more amateurish Greg Keller in terms of inflection.

"amateurish"

Yeah, amateurish. If you drew a comparison, that'd be immediately apparent.

Which is funny since Rody's cleans are just a whinier version of those vocals and would later go on to further emulate Greg's vocals.

Not meaning to nitpick Casavir but if that album is from ‘95 how is it the same ‘time’? You can argue that a superior & stylistically similar release pre-dated it instead, if you wish. Nice rec anyway, well I’m treating it like one.

I didn't argue that Sophisticated was from the same time. Sophisticated obviously predated this band.

I was talking about the albums that were coming out around the same time as Fortress that were better albums like Traced in Air by Cynic, Fadista by Alhambra, Warring Factions by Ansur, The Machinations of Dementia by Blotted Science, Paradise Lost by Symphony X, etc.

Those were two separate points I was making.

I've heard that Sieges Even album, never thought it sounded much like this band. But then again, I never got into it as much.

Yeah I don't see it either, they sound much closer to Symphony X than Protest, and if they were an influence on Protest they're barely incorporated in the Protest sound.

Best track on this No Stars Over Bethlehem. Blindfolds Aside and The Divine Suicide of K. drag this down a bit.

I read Cas's post earlier and was like, "should I tell him he's wrong or should I wait for someone else to do it?"
